Aurora is offering an opportunity for residents to be a part of a legacy project.
As part of Canada’s 150 celebrations, the Town of Aurora will be one of 150 Canadian communities creating a Canada 150 Mosaic.
The finished project will be made of 600 painted ceramic tiles that will form one master mural.
“It’s a legacy piece for sure,” said Shelley Ware, recreation supervisor with the town.
The town is looking for residents to help paint. Anyone is invited and all skill levels and ages are welcome.
The dominant image will be Hillary House, but it will also tie in the trumpeter swans, the train station and Aurora’s birthday status, said Ware.
And while some tiles will have a pattern or colour, there is room for artists to personalize the tiles.
“You maybe have to go with a blue theme, but you could paint the ball diamond at town park if you wished, but you would be using blue hues,” said Ware.
When complete, the mural will be eight by 12-feet and will be displayed in a town facility.
The painting days are Sept. 8, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Aurora Town Hall, and Sept. 9, 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. at the Armoury.
