The launch of a new platform will give Aurora residents a stronger voice.

The town has just announced the launch of its latest community engagement platform PlaceSpeak, designed to make it easier for residents to have a say in how Aurora changes and grows. Beginning this week, individuals can register for a free account and explore the platform, sharing thoughts and ideas with the town and neighbours.

“The Town of Aurora benefits every time a resident or business owner is engaged,” Mayor Geoff Dawe said. “Your feedback and participation in the decision-making processes of council helps make our community a better place for everyone.”

Account holders can simply log in from their computers or mobile devices and interact with local decision-makers, allowing them to contribute to issues that matter most to the town.

The platform will make it easier for residents to be engaged on their own time, since many aren’t able to attend council meetings and public information sessions to provide comment or raise concerns about issues within their neighbourhoods or around town.

This month, residents are invited to post about their favourite places to spend time in Aurora. Next month, residents will be asked to join a traffic safety topic to help the town identify traffic safety issues and generate a consensus regarding traffic management priorities.

“Our goal is to use PlaceSpeak to facilitate resident-led solutions and feedback related to traffic, community services, planning, and development,” CAO Doug Nadoronzny said. “This approach will allow Aurorans to not only identify issues that matter to them, but suggest solutions and weigh in on issues identified by their neighbours.”

The town will continue to advise those registered of future topics and the launch of the traffic safety consultation come September.

Residents and businesses have been invited to visit aurora.ca to register.

Once logged in, the platform offers a module called welcome topic to assist users in becoming familiar with the platform.

Those who register before Aug. 31 and participate in the notice board tab will be entered into a draw for a town prize pack.
