Swim advisory in effect for public beach in Georgina

The York Region Public Health Unit currently has one of 13 public beaches in Georgina under a swim advisory.

Keswick's Clarendon Beach has been subject to an advisory as of Aug. 17. This is a warning to swimmers, but not a beach closure.

During a swimming advisory, a beach is posted with signs indicating the water contains levels of bacteria that may present an increased risk of developing minor skin, eye, ear, nose and throat infections, as well as stomach disorders.

Those who choose to enter the water during a swimming advisory are cautioned to avoid submersing their head or swallowing the water.

A minimum of five samples are collected from each beach once a week and tested for bacteria.
