The De Gasperis and Muzzo families donated $15 million to the Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital.

It’s the single largest donation in Mackenzie Health’s history, and will be spent to develop the west wing of the new hospital building. The total cost of the hospital, which is scheduled to open in 2020, is $1.6 billion.

The new west wing will be named the De Gasperis-Muzzo Tower.

The donation goes to the Mackenzie Health Foundation’s fundraising campaign led by a 33-member cabinet co-chaired by Greg Sorbara and Vaughan Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua.

The foundation aims to raise $250 million in community contributions towards the total cost of the hospital.

“We will continue to reach out to individuals and organizations in our ongoing fundraising drive,” said Mackenzie Health Foundation president and CEO Ingrid Perry. “We hope they will follow the examples set by the De Gasperis and Muzzo families, and by all our very generous donors who have made a commitment to our new hospital.”

The new hospital will be 1.2 million sq. ft. and features integrated ‘smart’ technology systems and medical devices.
