Vaughan's McMichael Canadian Art Collection received a $464,428 federal government grant Wednesday that will allow it to upgrade its infrastructure.
The 50-year-old Kleinburg Group of Seven National Heritage Attraction was one of over 350 Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program projects approved in southern Ontario.
"This generous financial support from the Government of Canada and the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport will enable the McMichael to commence the revitalization of the Artists' Cemetery, the restoration of the Tom Thomson Studio Shack, and the creation of an Interpretive Trail linking these two heritage sites," said Ian Dejardin, executive director of the McMichael Canadian Art Collection.
"I am delighted to see my community benefit from the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program designed to preserve and improve our important community resources. The McMichael Canadian Art Collection is a true gem nestled in Kleinburg, in one of the most beautiful natural settings in the GTA. I look forward with anticipation to see the improvements made possible through this funding," said King-Vaughan MP Deb Schulte.
Schulte made the announcement at the gallery on behalf of the Hon. Navdeep Bains, minister of innovation, science and economic development and minister responsible for FedDev Ontario.
