Newmarket-Aurora MPP Chris Ballard is Ontario's new environment minister, Premier Kathleen Wynne announced July 31.
As part of a mini-cabinet shuffle, he is taking over the post vacated Monday, July 31 by Glen Murray, who is leaving provincial politics.
Ballard will take over the environment and climate change portfolio, giving up his present position as minister of housing and poverty reduction.
MPP Peter Milczyn will assume Ballard's former duties.
Ballard will lead Ontario's fight against climate change by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and overseeing the province's transition to a low-carbon economy, a government statement said.
A swearing in ceremony was held at Queen's Park Monday morning.
