‘Uber is the safe, smart alternative to driving to the Stampede grounds’: MADD Canada

As Calgarians get ready to celebrate the 2017 Calgary Stampede, MADD Canada is encouraging revelers looking for a “safe, sober and reliable ride home” to use Uber.

“Impaired driving claims hundreds of lives and causes thousands of injuries every year in Canada,” MADD Canada CEO Andrew Murie said in a Thursday news release. “These tragic deaths and injuries are 100 per cent preventable.”

MADD Canada lists the ride-sharing company as their official designated driving app.

“Uber is proud to partner with MADD Canada to raise awareness about the dangers of impaired driving,” Uber Western Canada general manager Ramit Kar said.

“Whether Calgarians want to avoid parking or plan to drink, Uber is the safe, smart alternative to driving to the Stampede grounds.”

“We urge all Calgarians and visitors to make a responsible choice and not to take the wheel when impaired and to choose safe alternative transport option like an Uber or taxi,” Ward 2 Councillor and Stampede board member Joe Magliocca added.

Those who wish to instead use Calgary Transit to get to and from the Stampede grounds will, as in previous years, have access to 24-hour CTrain service.

According to Calgary Transit’s website, 24-hour service begins the evening of July 6 until the late evening of July 16.

CTrain schedule:

• Every five to 8 min. – 6 a.m. to 12:45 a.m.
• Every 15 to 30 min. – 12:45 a.m. to 5 a.m.
