Feeling the heat? Here are 5 places to cool off in York Region

When the mercury soars there are plenty of places you can go in York Region to keep cool. Here are five locales to get you started.

1. Swan Lake Park

This park, located at 25 Swan Park Rd. in Markham, boasts a large splash pad, a gazebo, nearby playgrounds and trails so you can walk around Swan Lake, a former gravel pit filled with water teeming with wildlife.

2. North Thornhill Community Centre

This spot, at 300 Pleasant Ridge Ave., has something for everyone including a big splash pad with a gazebo, an indoor swimming pool and for those who don’t like getting wet, the Pleasant Ridge Library is right next door.

3. The Wave Pool

This public indoor facility, 5 Hopkins St. in Richmond Hill, offers a 100-foot water slide, on-deck sauna, warm water swirl pool. And it's monitored by lifeguards.

4. Gorman Outdoor Pool

This outdoor, heated public pool, 424 D'Arcy St. in Newmarket, is accessible with a slope from the shallow end to a depth of five feet in the deep end. There are lifeguards, picnic benches and chairs plus change rooms.

5. The ROC

This sprawling outdoor recreation facility, 26479 Civic Centre Rd. in Georgina, features a splash pad with vertical jets, dump buckets, a high volume jet and ground spray nozzles plus nearby play structures and a forest with walking trails.
