Richmond Hill is looking to activate residents.

The town has launched its new recreation registration system, ActiveRH, to help residents sign up for programs and reduce waiting times during the process. The new system will be available for fall registration beginning Aug. 30.

“We are really excited for our users to begin using ActiveRH,” said recreation and culture director Darlene Joslin.

The new system will allow users to register for programs from the convenience of their smartphone or tablet, create a wish list for advanced planning, and track and print their family’s recreation schedule.

Facility bookings are also available through the new process.
ActiveRH will replace RHeReg and current users who register online using their client bar code can now personalize their own accounts by using their email address and creating a password.

The need for an updated system with more capacity is clear in the number of program registrations, which over the past decade has increased by over 17,000.

With the system being able to handle 5,000 transactions per minute, users will be able to register more quickly. They will also be able to point and click after a profile is created to register; search programs by location, participant age or type of activity; request gyms, meeting rooms, arenas and other facilities; as well as set up text message alerts to be notified of unexpected cancellations of activities.

“Recreation programs play an important role in the lives of our community,” Mayor Dave Barrow said. “From music and rhythm classes for babies to a ropes challenge course for teens and art classes for adults, our residents keep active through our programs that are offered for all ages and interests and abilities.”

Users who create their accounts before Aug. 30 will be entered in a draw to win a $100 credit toward their new ActiveRH account, or two tickets to the Peking Acrobats at the Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts on Feb. 19 at 3:30 p.m.

The town budgeted $780,000 for the new project.

The fall and winter community recreation guide will be available online on Aug. 9 to help residents explore available programs.
