Members of business, government and the community gathered last Tuesday to officially break ground on the next phase of Vaughan's SmartCentres Place located in the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre.
SmartCentres Place is an ambitious 100-acre, 17-million-square-foot development beside the soon-to-be completed Vaughan subway station at Highway 7, just west of Jane Street.
While financial industry giant PwC Canada will hold the anchor position, space is also being made for an expansion of Vaughan's public library as well as a new 77,000-square-foot home for YMCA of Greater Toronto.
"I am extremely excited about our future together in Vaughan. This is a sensational beginning to our journey," YMCA GTA president and CEO Medhat Mahdy said.
Planners for the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre are envisioning a 40-million-square-foot complex at its eventual completion.
