Ontario is investing $89.9 million dollars to widen a 10 kilometre stretch of Highway 400 in York Region to eight lanes.
The province announced it wants to help drivers move quicker on Highway 400 by widening the area between Vaughan and King Township from six to eight lanes.
This is great news for daily commuters stuck in stop-and-go traffic during rush hour.
As part of the plan, lanes would be added between Major Mackenzie Drive and King Road. This project will also include the construction of High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes to be built in both directions.
“The new lanes will help keep traffic moving so that businesses can continue to operate and people get where they need to be sooner,” said Steven Del Duca, Minister of Transportation, in a press release Tuesday.
The province noted that part of the focus is creating jobs. They say the widening of Highway 400 will create approximately 629 construction jobs.
Construction is scheduled for completion by fall 2020.
