The long wait for the Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville to fill its chief administrative 0fficer position has finally ended.

Council has named Roman Martiuk as the new top staffer.

Martiuk was appointed to the role at a council meeting June 20.

His appointment is effective immediately, but he will assume full duties as CAO on Aug. 14, according to a news release.

“This is an important leadership role within the municipality and we are delighted to have attracted broad interest from top candidates across the country,” Whitchurch-Stouffville Mayor Justin Altmann said in the release. “Mr. Martiuk was selected for his deep municipal sector experience and his vision for delivering public value in the provision of municipal services and we look forward to him leading our organization.”

Martiuk is an experienced municipal manager, having held a number of city manager and chief administrative officer positions.

Most recently, he served as chief executive officer for the Walkerton Clean Water Centre.

Earlier in his career, he held positions in finance, human resources, public works and information technology.

Martiuk holds a bachelor of applied science and master of business administration degrees and is also a licensed professional engineer, certified management accountant and a chartered professional accountant.

“I am excited about joining the Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville,” Martiuk said in the release. “I look forward to working closely with the mayor, council and staff to tackle the town’s challenges and create an environment where staff can grow, excel and produce superior results for the taxpayer.”
