The province announced it wants to help drivers move quicker on Highway 400 by widening a ten kilometre stretch between Vaughan and King Township from six to eight lanes.

The lanes would be added between Major Mackenzie Drive and King Road to improve the traffic during peak hours.

Ontario is investing $89.9 million dollars for the project that will also include the construction of High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes to be built in both directions.

"The new lanes will help keep traffic moving so that businesses can continue to operate and people get where they need to be sooner," said Steven Del Duca, Minister of Transportation, in a press release Tuesday.

The province noted that part of the focus is creating jobs. They say the widening of Highway 400 will create approximately 629 construction jobs.

Construction is scheduled for completion by fall 2020.
