CaGBC announces 2017 leadership award winners

The Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC) has announced the winners of its 2017 Leadership Awards. The awards were unveiled at the CaGBC's national conference, held at the Vancouver Convention Centre.

Stephen Carpenter, the former president and founder of Enermodal Engineering Ltd. won the CaGBC Lifetime Achievement Award, and the Inspired Educator Award went to Dr. Janet Moore and Duane Elverum, the co-directors and co-founders of CityStudio.

The Emerging Green Builder Award was given to Hilary Corneau, a project delivery analyst at Brookfield GIS, and the executive council of the Office of Climate Change for the government of Newfoundland and Labrador won the Government Leadership Award.

The Volunteer Leadership Award in the technical expertise category went to Wendy MacDonald, a sustainability consultant and professional engineer, and to City of Vaughan sustainability manager Tony Iacobelli in the chapter category.

David Ramslie, the head of sustainability and planning for the Integral Group, won the Green Building Champion Award, and the Green Building Pioneer Award went to Liviu Craiu Botan, the manager of energy and technical services at Oxford Properties Group. Andrew Martins of the British Columbia Institute of Technology won the Students Leading Sustainabilty: Andy Kestello Memorial Project Award.

Two Green Building Excellence Awards were introduced this year, with Amber Trails Community School in north Winnipeg winning in the new construction category and the Vancouver Convention Centre winning in the existing building category. Runners up in the category included the Telus Garden Office Tower, Q Lofts, Toronto Dominion Centre and the NSCC Institute of Technology Campus.

Three projects earned WELL Building Certification; the Toronto-Dominion Centre in downtown Toronto, and the MNP Tower and CBRE Vancouver office, both in downtown Vancouver. All three buildings received WELL Gold certification.
