Paying Tribute To Our Roots

Snapd Vaughan East
June 2017

Trees are a symbol of growth and unity. They better our lives by offering environmental, social and economic benefits to our communities and businesses. They improve our surroundings and make our neighbourhoods feel safe. In honour of Canada 150, the City of Vaughan is holding a honour of Canada 150, the City of Vaughan held a ceremonial tree planting and commemorative plaque unveiling at the Civic Centre Resource Library on April 28th, which paid homage to the country’s past, present and future. The event celebrates First Nations heritage and culture, and recognizes the collaborative efforts of all who contribute to the city. A Sugar Maple was planted for Canada, an Eastern White Pine for Ontario and a Cedar tree for the Aboriginal community. The three trees represent social harmony and symbolize the nation coming together to observe a special once-in-a-lifetime occasion — Canada’s sesquicentennial. This project was made possible in part by the Government of Canada through the CN EcoConnexions From the Ground Up program, in partnership with Tree Canada.
