The woman charged with cutting down three mature trees on her Markham property will be back in court to face charges on Thursday, May 18.
Jialing Wu, who was charged by a City of Markham bylaw officer in December with nine bylaw infractions for cutting down three trees at 47 Gainsville Ave. in Unionville, will be making her fourth appearance in Richmond Hill provincial court next Thursday at 9 a.m.
Wu appeared in February, then made two appearances in March, before coming back this month.
Meanwhile, a source very close to Wu said she will plant 18 trees in Markham before a looming May 31 deadline imposed by the city for cutting down the three trees.
Wu was given until the end of this month in a Dec. 22 order sent to her by Markham provincial offences officer David Hunt, also tree presentation technician for the city, to plant 18 trees from a pre-approved list of 22 species supplied by Markham. Each tree must be at least 60 millimetres in diameter. If she doesn't plant the trees, she must pay the city a $10,800 fine, or $600 for each of the 18 trees not planted.
But the source assured she will plant the trees by 4:30 p.m. on May 31.
