Newmarket closes some trails and parks due to flooding and rising water levels

Newmarket parks and trails are closing due to the rain and high water levels.
The town has closed several recreational locations in town due to flooding and rising water levels and they will remain closed until further notice.
So far, College Manor Park bridge from the park to Sheridan Court, Tom Taylor Trail under Mulock Drive, Tom Taylor Trail at Davis Drive on the east side of the river, Fairy Lake Park boardwalk and the Fairy Lake parking lot near Water Street and walkways around the parking lot have been closed.
Newmarket staff is currently clearing and cleaning areas around sewer grates and is urging residents to keep clear of any body of water including the Holland River and Fairy Lake due to the increase in water levels.
Parents are especially encouraged to communicate this message to their children.
The town is also reminding residents of the importance of having emergency supplies including water, non-perishable foods, flashlights and a first-aid kit to last for 72 hours.
