The Country Club Golf Course in Woodbridge has joined the growing list of area golf course facilities purchased by developers.

The sale of the 290-acre facility located on prime land along the Humber River in Woodbridge was completed on May 3, when Clubhouse Developments completed the transaction to acquire the private ClubLink property.

“Low-rise housing inventory is down 65 per cent year over year in the GTA,” said RGF Real Estate Fund president John A. D’Angelo in a news release on May 4. “With this shortage and an eight per cent population increase in Woodbridge alone in the last five years, this rare land opportunity can help fulfil the growing need for desirable housing in Ontario.”

The facility, which includes two 18-hole courses in addition to a nine-hole executive-style course, was established in 1965 and designed by Canadian architect Howard Watson. The facility was later refined by Arthur Hills, golf legend Arnold Palmer’s most famous design partner.

The sale price was not disclosed.

Development is not scheduled to begin immediately, according to the news release.
