A Vaughan-based manufacturing firm got a nearly $500,000 jolt from a municipally-owned electricity distribution company for cutting its power usage.

Gracious Living Corporation, an injection and extrusion manufacturer on Martin Grove Road, landed $478,240 from Alectra Utilities (formerly PowerStream) for reducing its electricity consumption through the utility’s Save on Energy RETROFIT program. Gracious Living worked with Alectra and Berg Chilling Systems Inc. to upgrade its water cooling system, replacing its three original, less-efficient cooling towers.

The conversion is expected to reduce the company’s electrical demand by 598 kilowatts and electricity consumption by 3,411,093 kilowatt-hours per year, the equivalent of removing 389 homes off the electrical grid, according to a news release.

Gracious Living projects it will see electricity savings of more than $410,000 per year as a result.
