Excavated Pit Grows Larger for The Met Condos in Vaughan

Construction crews have been working away at the site of Plaza and Berkeley's The Met since preliminary activity commenced in late 2016. A new condominium tower and townhome development soon to rise in Vaughan's burgeoning downtown, shoring and excavation kicked off in early 2017 at the Quadrangle-designed development's Jane Street site, just north of Highway 7. Now, with summer approaching, excavation work has progressed significantly.

Crews from Anchor Shoring and Michael Bros. Excavation continue to work away on the site's earth retention system and excavation respectively. A closer look at the walls of the excavation reveal the details of the site's pile and lagging system, consisting of vertical steel piles with horizontal timber lagging placed between, holding back the surrounding earth.

This excavated pit will be replaced by the development's three-storey underground garage. Once the current phase of work wraps up, TMG Builders will take over, starting with the forming of the foundation components.

The project will bring 511 units within walking distance of the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre subway station which opens this December. The suites are coming in one- and two-bedroom layouts, sized from 510 ft² to 875 ft². A group of 62 townhomes will provide square footages more suited to family lifestyles, with sizes exceeding 1,250 ft². Residents of the development will have access to a selection of amenities on the tower's ground floor, including a lounge space with adjacent kitchens and dining areas, party rooms with bar, a theatre, a games room, a gym and spa, and a tech lounge.
