The Aurora Public Library is getting a financial boost from the federal government.
Canada 150 is a time to celebrate the places across the country that unite and connect communities.
The library is one of more than 350 provincial projects approved for funding under the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program during the second intake round.
“The program will preserve and improve our community infrastructure so that Canadians and their families can enjoy moments of culture, sport, recreation and leisure for years to come,” said Aurora-Oak Ridges-Richmond Hill MP Leona Alleslev.
The library received about $97,000 to help with infrastructure upgrades.
Part of the federal government’s Canada 150 celebrations includes providing about $300 million over the next two years for renovation, expansion and improvement projects of existing cultural and community facilities.
More than 730 projects have been approved and $88.8 million awarded through both intake rounds to help leave a lasting Canada 150 legacy, which are to be complete by March 2018.
More than 2,100 projects applied for government funding.
The program is aimed to help municipalities with needed funding to upgrade community facilities, parks, trails and community and cultural centres.
