The city dug deep to commemorate Canada’s 150th anniversary with a ceremonial tree planting and commemorative plaque unveiling April 28.
The event, held at the Civic Centre Resource Library, paid homage to the country's past, present and future.
A sugar maple was planted to represent Canada, an eastern white pine for Ontario and a cedar tree for Aboriginal Peoples.
The project was funded, in part, by the federal government’s CN EcoConnexions From the Ground Up program, in partnership with Tree Canada.
A plaque recognizing the donation was also unveiled.
Vaughan was among 50 cities to receive a $25,000 grant for tree planting projects through the program.
The money will go to plant about 600 trees and as well as to working with students and volunteers to teach them about the importance of environmental stewardship.
