What's open, closed in York Region on Victoria Day 2017

Victoria Day kicks off the unofficial start of summer. If you’re wondering what you can do in York Region on May 22, here’s our handy list of what’s open and what’s closed.

GO Transit will operate on a Saturday schedule. For more information, visit GOTransit.com.

YRT/Viva and TTC routes will operate on a Sunday/holiday schedule. The YRT/Viva contact centre will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  The YRT/Viva head office located at 50 High Tech Road in Richmond Hill will be closed. For more information, visit yrt.ca.

Get your liquor and suds early. LCBO and beer stores will be closed.

Here’s what’s going on in your local municipality:

Vaughan

Municipal offices and facilities, such as the Joint Operations Centre, Vaughan Animal Services and community centres, will be closed on May 22.

Vaughan Public Library branches will be closed May 21 and May 22.

Splash pads and water play parks will be open on weekends starting May 22 and daily from June until the end of August.

Waste collection will not be affected and will continue as regularly scheduled for the week.

Promenade Mall will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Vaughan Mills will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Aurora

The town hall, Aurora Public Library and Joint Operations Centre will be closed.

The Aurora Seniors’ Centre will be closed on May 20 and May 22.

Residential waste collection is not affected by Victoria Day. Please continue with your regular waste collection schedule.

Recreation centres including the Aurora Family Leisure Complex and the Stronach Aurora Recreation Complex will be operating with modified hours. For example, the pool at the leisure complex will be closed, while the fitness program will run from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. At the Stronach complex, there will be no skating and the lane swim will take place from 9 to 11 a.m. and leisure swim will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. For a full list of hours of operation and program opportunities including fitness classes, pool, gymnasium, rock wall and The Loft hours, visit aurora.ca/victoriaday.

East Gwillimbury

The Civic Centre and public library will be closed.

Georgina

The town hall will be closed.

King Township

Municipal offices and facilities will be closed.

The Nobleton Victoria Day Fair and Fireworks event will include a parade through the community at Hwy. 27 and King Road, music, vendors and more. At dusk, fireworks will take place behind the arena parking lot.

Markham

City of Markham municipal offices including the contact centre and Markham Public Library branches will be closed for the Victoria Day holiday on Monday, May 22.

All fitness centres are open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., except the Markham Pan Am Centre, which will be closed. The Thornhill Community Centre is offering table tennis from 8 a.m. to noon and duplicate bridge from 1 to 4 p.m., while the Thornhill Seniors’ Centre will host euchre from 1 to 3:30 p.m.

The Angus Glen Tennis Centre will be open from 8:30 a.m to 2:30 p.m.

Centennial, Milliken, Pan Am and Thornlea pools will be closed. The following pools will have drop-in opportunities:

Angus Glen Pool

Lane Swim: 1 to 2 p.m.

Parent and Tot Swim: 1 to 2 p.m.

Rec Swim: 2 to 4 p.m.

Cornell Pool

Lane Swim: 10 to 11:30 a.m.

Parent and Tot Swim: 10 to 11:30 a.m.

Rec Swim: Noon to 2 p.m.

Thornhill Pool

Parent and Tot Swim: 10 to 11:30 a.m.

Therapy Swim: 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Markville Mall will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Pacific Mall will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Newmarket

The town hall and all municipal facilities, such as the Newmarket Public Library, Seniors’ Meeting Place, Elman W. Campbell Museum, Newmarket Theatre and community centres, will be closed.

Upper Canada Mall will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Richmond Hill

Richmond Hill’s Municipal Offices at 225 East Beaver Creek and the Operations Centre at 1200 Elgin Mills Rd. E. will be closed.

All Richmond Hill Public Library branches will be closed.

Waste collection will take place as usual.

All recreation centres and swimming pools will be closed, except the Wave Pool, which will have an adult leisure swim from 6:30 to 8:30 a.m., leisure swim from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and wave swim from 1 to 3 p.m.

Hillcrest Mall will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Whitchurch-Stouffville

The town hall and town facilities will be closed.

The town will host fireworks in Memorial Park in Stouffville on Sunday May 21 at 9:30 p.m.
