A Canadian charity is offering to teach local students how to become “superheroes” of environmental protection.
The Planet Protector Academy, in partnership with the city, is running a pilot program geared to students in grades 3 to 5, to teach kids about reducing waste.
The program, dubbed Zero Heroes, features in-class activities about waste and consumption issues - game shows, writing raps about food scraps, drawing posters and team math competitions - led by a website projected at the front of the class.
Students are then given at-home missions that involve their family to help spread the message.
DreamRider Productions developed the program, which is being offered through funding support received from Vaughan’s waste management division.
Schools or teachers interested in bringing the program to their classrooms can contact Sion Lanini at sion@dreamriderproductions.com or 604-757-3212.
