When Itia Golan bought a condo north of Thornhill’s Promenade Village Shoppes 2-1/2 years ago, she knew one day, more condo buildings may be built with as many as 14 floors.

Fourteen floors is the limit set out in Vaughan’s Official Plan.

Today, she is concerned about developer Torgan’s proposal to build seven 27-storey buildings to replace The Promenade Village Shoppes, which is close to her condominium building.

“Seven buildings in this little area?” she said. “Congestion, wind tunnels, it’s going to be terrible.”

The Promenade Village Shoppes is at 7700 Bathurst St., just south of Centre Street.

An official plan amendment accepted by Vaughan council would allow the group to build more than 14 storeys.

Golan worries about the possible impact on the area.

“If I wanted to live in downtown Toronto, I would live in Toronto,” she said.

So, she has joined a group called the Centre-Bathurst committee which will meet in June with Torgan Group.

The meeting will cover four areas: form (buildings’ height, mass and density); transportation (traffic, pedestrian safety and access … how will people access the development); design (including the design landscape and green space); community (How will the services and facility use, such as community centres change? How much space will there be in schools?).
