Enjoy crafts, face painting - or a spelling bee in Thornhill

Competition. C-O-M-P-E-T-I-T-I-O-N. Competition.

Children between six and 14 who are spelling-inclined, can enter the first Thornhill Regional Spelling Bee of Canada Competition. First place winters compete at the championship finals this May in Toronto. The competition is Saturday, April 8, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Centre Court of The Shops on Yonge, an indoor shopping centre in the World On Yonge complex. It is on Yonge Street just blocks north of Steeles Avenue at 7181 Yonge St. Unit 168.

Other Shops on Yonge events include: An Easter Food Drive Festival Sunday, April 9 from 12 noon to 4 p.m. in Centre Court.

Bring your non-perishable food donations to help this campaign to support local food banks. With a donation, kids can enjoy free crafts, face painting and pictures with a superhero. The day will also feature raffles and giveaways.

Or, Meet the Easter Bunny and make Easter crafts Saturday, April 15 from noon to 3 p.m. in Centre Court. Kids can make Easter crafts and the Easter Bunny will be strolling throughout the mall handing out chocolate and taking pictures.
