Georgina residents will held to the polls for the second time this year after school board trustees voted to hold a byelection for the seat left vacant by Nancy Elgie’s resignation.

“Having a byelection means the residents of Georgina have a fair and democratic process to select their representative,” board chairperson Loralea Carruthers said after the April 4 meeting.

“We wanted to ensure a fair and transparent process and that’s why we held a community consultation to ensure community concerns were heard.”

Trustees directed staff members to work with the Town of Georgina to initiate a byelection at an estimated cost of $162,534.51, which the school board will reimburse.

More information, including timelines and polling locations, will be made available through the town a and the board's website, yrdsbc.ca.
