Parents concerned about the closing of TanenbaumCHAT’s Kimel campus will lead a rally on Thursday (April 6).

The rally will be held outside of Toronto’s Lipa Green building on Bathurst Street (between Finch and Sheppard avenues.) School buses will leave the Kimel campus at noon, which is the beginning of lunch on the shortened day. Buses will bring students back to school around 2 p.m. Parents can bring friends, and other supporters. Some teachers are expected to attend the event. Students attending need to be signed out because this is not an official school event.

Organizers are encouraging people to bring signs with positive, rather than negative messages.

On March 6, Tanenbaum CHAT announced the north and south campus of the Jewish high school would be merging, meaning the Vaughan/Kimel (north location) will close after this school year.

At the same time as the merger announcement, a separate announcement revealed a future tuition decrease.

The Tanenbaum CHAT Kimel’s board of directors has rejected the parent group Save TCK’s proposal to save the Kimel campus.

The board issued a written response March 24. The board concluded that the proposal did not offer a viable long-term plan for maintaining a two-campus school.
