The McMichael gallery's new top boss has arrived.

Ian Dejardin, a 61-year-old art historian, officially took the reins at the Kleinburg gallery April 3.

He comes to Canada after 12 years at the helm of the Dulwich Picture Gallery in London, England where, among other things, he launched the much-lauded Painting Canada: Tom Thomson and the Group of Seven exhibition.

Dejardin succeeds Nathalie Mercure who took on the role of interim executive director role in September 2015 following the departure of Victoria Dickenson who stepped down after serving in the role from 2011 to 2015.

Dickenson was hired several months after Thomas Smart abruptly resigned in July 2010, following what many in the art world deemed a highly successful tenure that had greatly improved the gallery’s reputation.
