10 Region of York workers were paid more than $200,000: Sunshine List

The Region of York had 10 employees earning more than $200,000 in 2016, the newly released Sunshine List reveals.

The annual list, which discloses Ontario public service workers with salaries over $100,000, showed 727 workers or 21.5 per cent of permanent regional employees earned over that benchmark last year.

That doesn’t include the 1,137 officers and civilians working for York Regional Police and the 17 staff with York Region Rapid Transit Corporation who took home more than $100,000.

Chief administrative officer Bruce Macgregor was the region’s top earner with a salary of almost $300,000.

He was paid $298,125 and had additional taxable benefits of $14,056.

Medical officer of health, Dr. Karim Kurji, earned $274,812 and taxable benefits of $12,466.

The third highest paid regional employee was associate medical officer of health, Dr. John Richard Gould, who took home $248,133 and had taxable benefits of $1,030.

Adelina Urbanski, who retired in March from her position as commissioner of community and health services, was paid $242,255 and had an additional $12,282 in taxable benefits.

Dr. Lilian Yuan, associate medical officer of health, had a pay cheque of $238,012 and taxable benefits of $1,024.

Commissioner of environmental services Erin Mahoney’s salary was $219,994 and she also had taxable benefits of $12,190.

Treasurer Bill Hughes earned $218,959 and had taxable benefits of $12,190.

Dino Basso, commissioner of corporate services, took home $218,441 and had taxable benefits of $12,190.

Regional chair Wayne Emmerson was paid $211,968 and had additional taxable benefits of $17,729.

Rounding out the top-10 list was regional solicitor Joy Hulton, who earned $204,446 and had taxable benefits of $832.

With the region’s rapid transit corporation, 17 of 40 permanent employees, or 42.5 per cent, are on the Sunshine List.

President Mary-Frances Turner was the top earner, taking home $219,994 and taxable benefits of $12,190.

Chief engineer Paul May was next, with a salary of $195,013 and taxable benefits of $747.

Rounding out the top three was chief financial officer Michael Cheong who was paid $168,744 and had additional taxable benefits of $692.
