Recognizing that gender equality doesn’t happen on its own, events like the International Women's Day Celebration at City Hall are held every year to help promote gender equality and simultaneously inspire many - if not all - to become leaders and significant members of change. And in honour of the month’s Women’s Day movement and campaign, the Elspeth Heyworth Centre for Women once again collaborated with the City of Vaughan to host their annual International Women's Day Celebration, dedicated to unity and revolutionary change.

The celebration attracted countless members of the community, including powerful leaders and dignitaries, who voiced their ideas on female empowerment. Each speaker also described their intriguing experiences highlighting their struggles or their daughter’s or mother’s struggles as a women in society and how they overcame their circumstances and/or inspired change. As each speaker took to the podium, the crowd remained moved and compelled by each unique story that was expressed. And during refreshments and lunchtime, guests were granted the opportunity to also network with each other, while share their experiences.

With a theme geared to the promotion of gender equality, this year’s celebration successfully managed to further promote and emphasize the importance of gender equality.
