A new streamlined approach to health care means your records as a patient will be shared seamlessly between any of the three hospitals in Markham, Newmarket and Alliston
“One patient, one record” is the idea behind the new eHealth partnership between Markham Stouffville Hospital, Southlake Regional Health Centre, and Stevenson Memorial Hospital.
“Clinicians will be able to access more information about their patients when they need it from almost anywhere,” said Lewis Hooper, chief information officer, Markham Stouffville Hospital.
Tim Pemberton, chief technology officer at Southlake, said this will be particularly beneficial to patients who are cared for at multiple sites, such as cardiac and cancer patients, who receive care at both their local hospital and at one of Southlake’s regional programs.
It’s the first integration of its kind under the province’s eHealth 2.0 guidelines and will enable Southlake and Stevenson to move to a fully electronic health record, joining Markham Stouffville which is currently the top-ranked community hospital in Canada according to Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society.
Over the next year, Southlake and Stevenson will update their HIS to the latest version of Meditech’s system which is already in use at Markham.
Meditech systems are in use at more than 50 per cent of Ontario hospitals.
