Italian wine lovers living in Vaughan have a new reason to raise a glass and shout, salute!

The LCBO announced Friday (Jan. 27) it is dramatically boosting the number of wines from Italy carried in its Woodbridge store at 8260 Hwy. 27.

Shelves there will be stocked with approximately 800 bottles of that country’s favourite libation, some 450 of which were previously available only at Ontario restaurants and bars.

It’s part of an initiative dubbed Products of the World, launched last year to transform some LCBO outlets into specialty stores boasting enhanced offerings from a specific country or region.

“This store is home to one of the best single store assortments of its kind outside Italy and, I dare to say, anywhere in the world,” LCBO president and CEO George Soleas said at the launch event.

Woodbridge’s Products of the World boutique is the 14th specialty store to be unveiled with others specializing in wines and spirits from Greece, East Asia, Portugal, Spain and Chile.

The program is, reportedly, wildly successful, with the East Asia boutique in Markham seeing a 400 per cent jump in sales since it opened last year, according to the LCBO.

Given that, the LCBO plans to launch others including California and France later this year.
