Markham signs friendship agreement with Sri Lankan territory

Markham has signed a friendship agreement with Mullaitivu, Northern Province, Sri Lanka.
The signing ceremony for the agreement, the first agreed to by Mullaitivu, took place on Jan. 14, between the Honourable Justice C.V. Wigneswaran, Chief Minister of Mullaitivu and Mayor Frank Scarpitti in council chambers at Markham Civic Centre.
"Markham is the most diverse municipality in the country and our Tamil community has played an important role in our continued growth and prosperity," said Scarpitti.
"Together we have been developing strong economic and cultural connections with the greater Tamil community throughout Canada and South Asia. This agreement signals our continued commitment to the South Asia community and our shared economic growth and prosperity."
