In a December 19 decision, arising from a November 18, 2015 pre-hearing conference, board vice-chair Jan de Pencier Seaborn issued two orders concerning the appeals of the City of Vaughan’s adoption of the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre Secondary Plan.
Vaughan city solicitors Claudia Storto and Michael Toshakovski fi led a motion seeking a board order for a series of modifications and approvals, and dismissing certain appeals of the secondary plan. City planner Steven Dixon testified in support of the city’s motion.
The city sought modifications to the major parks and open spaces map to relocate a public square in the southeast quadrant of the secondary plan, and to modify the height and density provisions for certain blocks. The board adopted Dixon’s evidence and granted the city’s motion, resulting in a partial approval of the secondary plan.
An additional motion, filed by 785345 Ontario and I&M Pandolfo Holdings (“Omega”) solicitors Quinto Annibale and Steven Ferri (Loopstra Nixon), sought a board order approving the secondary plan with modifi cations for Omega’s lands. The motion was supported by the city.
Planner Michael Bissett (Bousfields) testified in support of Omega’s motion, which sought the introduction of a new site specific policy area to permit hotel and office uses, expanded banquet hall and increased density on portions of Omega’s property at 7601 Jane Street.
The board granted the two motions, allowing the modifications requested by Omega and the city. Phase Two of the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre Secondary Plan appeals will start January 9. View the board’s decision for a full list of solicitors present at this hearing. [OMB Case No. PL111184.]
