If you’re among those anxiously awaiting the completion of the Hwy. 427 extension, you’ll likely know in a couple of months when that’s expected to happen and how much it will cost.

Infrastructure Ontario and the Ministry of Transportation revealed in a Jan. 25 news release that LINK 427 is the consortium that will design, build, finance and maintain the extension and the construction schedule and price tag for the project are slated to be revealed in March.

Hwy. 427 is being extended 6.6 kilometres, from Hwy. 7 up to Major Mackenzie Drive, and a 4 km stretch from Finch Avenue to Hwy. 7 will be widened.

The province also plans to build high occupancy toll (HOT) lanes on a 15.5 km stretch, with electronic tolling in both directions from south of Hwy. 409 to north of Rutherford Road.

The HOT lanes are expected to open in 2021.

The team tasked with designing, building, financing and maintaining the new length of roadway includes ACS Infrastructure Canada Inc. and Miller Infrastructure, Dragados Canada Inc., Bot Infrastructure Ltd., MMM Group Ltd. and Thurber Engineering Ltd.

The province is finalizing contract details with LINK 427.

Design and construction of the highway extension is expected to start shortly after the construction schedule and cost are announced.
