An estimated $1.1 million in retroactive payments will be paid out to Georgina’s full-time firefighters, according to the town.

With a new collective agreement inked last week between the Georgina Professional Fire Fighters Association and the town, the payout will cover the pay increases under the contract, which covers the period of January 1, 2013 to September 2016.

The estimated $1.1 million is subject to refined calculations for impacts due to overtime, firefighter class progressions and the timing of new hires during those years, town communications manager Maria Evans confirmed Friday.

Total retroactive payments of $138,818 were paid to the approximately 130 unionized municipal staff CUPE members for the period of April 1, 2015 to June 3, 2016.

“With respect to 2016 collective bargaining outcomes, the estimated costs are within those amounts reserved for that purpose,” Evans said.
