If there are rabid raccoons, sickly skunks or any type of wounded wildlife roaming your neighbourhood, the city will now send out a trained professional deal with it.
Vaughan, as of Sept. 1, has expanded its animal services to include in-house response for sick or injured wild animals 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Animal control officers won’t come out to deal with healthy wild animals causing a nuisance.
The move comes after years of residents and area non-profit wildlife rehabilitation agencies calling for city officials to offer the service.
Prior to the change, Vaughan Animal Services was limited to providing shelter, adoption and animal control services for domestic dogs and cats.
As well as dealing with sick and injured wildlife, the city is expanding its hours of operation for animal services.
The Vaughan Animal Shelter, 70 Tigi Ct., is open Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m Saturdays.
Adoption services are available at the shelter Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays.
Pet licensing can be done at city hall, 2141 Major Mackenzie Dr., Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
