Quebec taxi drivers vow to keep up pressure over Uber
Drivers will protest in Quebec City today, bigger event planned for next week

The province's taxi drivers say they are not backing down when it comes to Uber's continued presence in Quebec.

Drivers from Montreal assembled in Anjou Wednesday morning and the convoy headed to Quebec City to take part in a demonstration outside the National Assembly.

"We're fed up of being messed with," said Benoit Jugand, a spokesperson Le Front commun du taxi, which represents three large taxi-industry groups, in a statement.

"The government will have us in their faces."

On Tuesday, a Quebec Superior Court judge rejected the taxi industry's request for an injunction against the ride-hailing service.

It was the taxi drivers' second attempt to stop Uber from operating in the province. Their first try was rejected last week.

The industry says Uber is illegal and they want the deal Quebec struck with the company to be suspended.

The common front also warned there will be a bigger protest next Wednesday. The place and time have yet to be confirmed.
