Whitchurch-Stouffville town council is holding a public meeting to consider a proposed amendment to allow places of worship on lands fronting Main Street between Albert Street and Park Drive.

The amendment is a result of a study conducted by the town in 2015-2016 and a final consultant study dated January 2016 and adopted by council on June 7.

The proposed amendment would rezone the area in question to allow new institutional uses, including places of worship.

Institutional uses of lands would be prohibited in industrial area designations, but permitted in business park area lands with rezoning and specific criteria.

The town invites any residents to attend the public meeting for the opportunity to make a written or oral submission either in support of or in opposition to the proposed amendment. Residents unable to attend may give the town written submissions until the time of the meeting.

The public meeting is Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. at the council chambers at 111 Sandiford Dr.
