York Region events: 10 things to do this weekend (Aug. 5-7)

So there's a ribfest (actually there's two). There's teddy bears, craft beer, jazz in Markham and concerts in Richmond Hill.

Pretty good options in York Region this weekend in terms of events.

1. So it's the STOUFFVILLE COUNTRY RIBFEST from Friday to Sunday. Friday to Sunday at Memorial Park. Ribs, food, beer, margaritas and music. Sounds good to us!

2. Not to be outdone, there's a WOODBRIDGE RIBFEST too. Food, music, rides and vendors at the Woodbridge Fairgrounds. Friday to Sunday.

3. At Whittamore's Farm in Markham, it's the 5TH ANNUAL TEDDY BEAR FAIR. Variety of activities for children, including a teddy bear clinic, wagon rides and a magic show.

4. Saturday at the Richmond Hill Centre for Performing Arts, it's the RICHMOND HILL ROTARY CRAFT BEER FESTIVAL. Featuring 10 local craft brewers, each with a few different brands to sample. Cider and wine available, as will entertainment.

5.It's the first in a weekly series: the DOWNTOWN MARKHAM JAZZ FESTIVAL is every Saturday in August on Enterprise Boulevard (near Warden and Hwy. 407). This week: Chris Wallace, Liza Williams and and Cat Bernardi. Starts mid-late afternoon and well into the evening.

6. If you haven't caught a performance of the MCB CONCERT SERIES in Unionville, this Sunday evening is your last chance at the Unionville Millennium Bandstand.

7. Saturday in Aurora, it's the BIG BAM CHALLENGE, an event put on by YouthSpeak Performance Charity. The goal? To create a safe space for youth to face challenges in life related to bullying, addiction and mental health. Lots of activities all day at this free event.

8. It's a commemorative SUMMER OF LOVE PERFORMANCE at Books/Cafe and Things in Newmarket Saturday afternoon. This free event courtesy Freedom Chuck.

9. There are several blood donor clinics this weekend in the community, including in MILLIKEN (Friday), WOODBRIDGE and STOUFFVILLE (Saturday).

10. CONCERTS IN THE PARK series in Richmond HIll continues Sunday at 1 p.m. at Richmond Green Park with Rob Faust.
