The firefighters of Vaughan’s Fire & Rescue Services held their annual car wash fundraiser at the Promenade Mall on June 26th, in support of the community garden behind Fire Hall 7-1 (Bathurst & Clark). Families came to enjoy the unique car wash experience, a tour of the fire trucks, some colouring books and fire helmets.

People also had the opportunity to volunteer at this event. The Growing to Give garden stemmed from Captain Jacob Dabit's vision in 2012 to extend the fire hall’s program of giving food to those in need by using the land behind the fire hall to grow an edible garden. He approached the City of Vaughan about this idea and at that time Seeds for Change had begun doing just that by building edible school and community gardens across York Region. Every year Captain Dabit, some of his amazing crew, the gardeners and other volunteers come out to help raise money to sustain this garden. This year was their biggest success yet!
