Activate Aurora is set to launch and the entire town is invited.

The project is a town-wide campaign to transform Aurora into Canada’s most active community. The initiative is being led by Sport Aurora and supported by Mayor Geoff Dawe’s task force on physical activity as well as the Ontario Trillium Foundation, which is a partnership for success, according to project organizer Ron Weese.

“Everyone in the town is invited to the Activate Aurora Campaign Launch to learn what they can do individually and collectively to transform Aurora into the healthiest and most physically literate community in the nation,” Weese said.

The free, family-friendly event will take place at the Aurora Family Leisure Complex on Industrial Parkway North on Sept. 18 from 1 to 2 p.m.

Celebrity appearances and a sport expo will be included.

The initiative, that has brought together representatives from different sectors including government, health care, education and community organizations to form the campaign, began in 2014 when a group of 40 community leaders discussed making Aurora a sport for life community.
