With the city of Vancouver pushing hard against more pipelines to the coast, some are calling on the energy industry to step up and defend itself.
Environmentalist groups, First Nations, and people who don’t want pipelines built have the advantage, according to the American Energy News’s Markham Hislop, who tells the Ryan Jespersen show the energy industry isn’t saying anything.
“They have basically allowed the opponents, the eco-activists, the BC First Nations, to completely monopolize the debate in the media, at town halls. Industry rarely shows up, and never says anything.”
He argues that nothing is going to get built in the way of pipelines if the industry stays quiet.
“The industry has just not done a good enough job. They have allowed their critics to beat them at the PR game.”
Hislop adds that the energy industry needs to stop whining about its opponents, and focus on spreading its message.
