York Region’s largest employer recently set its annual budget.
Earlier this month, the York Region District School Board approved a nearly $1.4 billion balanced budget for the 2016-2017 school year. The budget increased 2.6-per-cent over last year and helps serve an enrolment of about 123,000.
In total, about 94.4 per cent of the budget is allocated toward classroom instruction and direct school operation-related expenses, with the remaining amount paying for governance, administration and student transportation, according to a board press release.
The board employs more than 15,000 people and is the third largest school district in Ontario, operating 175 elementary and 32 secondary schools.
