City Council Makes Changes Ahead of Uber Public Input Meeting

City Councillors cut through a list of proposed regulations for Uber that were put forward by city staff in a recent report.

Among the suggestions Councillors voted to axe were banning surge pricing and in-car cameras.

Uber has been operating in the Forest City illegally since last summer and staff have been working to craft rules to regulate the ride-sharing app.

Londoners will have a chance to voice their opinions on the recent staff report during a public participation meeting yet to be scheduled for sometime in October.

Uber sent out emails last week to its local customers urging them to tell Councillors they support ride sharing.

The company says the regulations in the staff report would put its operations at risk.

While many municipalities continue to push back against Uber, Edmonton became the first city in Canada earlier this year to legalize the service when they created a new category for ride-sharing companies.
