Statistics obtained by The Canadian Press indicate increasing problems with elevators across Canada. Selected numbers:

Toronto

• 2000: 1,386
• 2015: 2,862

Montreal

• 2010: 1,415
• 2015: 1,532

Vancouver

• 2011: 503
• 2015: 428

Age of elevators in Ontario (Residential/Office):

• Over 50 years old: 1,550/650
• 25-50 years old: 10,000/4,750
• 10-25 years old: 3,250/2,100
• 5-10 years old: 1,700/847
• Under 5 years old: 1,750/700
• Total: About 18,000/9,000
