During Tuesday’s Community and Protective Services Committee meeting, councillors voted to send the staff recommendations to a public participation meeting.

While an exact date has not been set, it will likely be sometime in October.

Among the items in the report, a plan to put the brakes on surge pricing, as well as a requirement that Uber vehicles have forward facing cameras will be discussed.

The report also suggests Uber drivers should be responsible for the same liability insurance and safety requirements as taxis.

While many municipalities continue to push back against Uber, Edmonton became the first city in Canada earlier this year to legalize the service when they created a new category for ride-sharing companies.
