York Region Centre for Community Safety has been recognized for its attempts to help crime victims.
The provincial government recognized a total of 15 people and organizations, including York Region Centre, during the Attorney General’s Victim Services Awards of Distinction ceremony at Queen’s Park in Toronto June 2. York Region Centre helps adults and children, who are victims of domestic violence, get aid through the coordination of support and services. The organization helps victims navigate the justice, health and social services systems by creating a single entry point to a variety of services.
“The work this organization does in invaluable to the victims it serves,” Newmarket-Aurora MPP Chris Ballard said in a press release. “The many different systems can be hard to navigate, but the York Region Centre helps victims find the help they need.”
The awards of distinction program began in 2006.
“I am inspired by the dedication shown by today’s recipients as they have worked to make a difference in the lives of victims,” Attorney General Madeleine Meilleur said. “We all have a responsibility to help make Ontario a place where every one of us can live in safety, and these individuals and organizations work tirelessly, selflessly and with incredible courage.”
