New GO Train stations planned for Barrie corridor
Transportation minister says stations to be located in Vaughan, Newmarket and Innisfil.

The province plans to build three new GO Train stations on the Barrie line, Transportation Minister Steven Del Duca announced Friday.

No exact locations were given for the locations of the proposed stations on Kirby Road in Vaughan, Mulock in the Town of Newmarket, and Innisfil in Simcoe County.

There was also no date given for when construction would begin at the new stations.

“We are giving commuters in this region another reason to leave their cars behind and take transit, which is so fundamental to our economy, to our quality of life and to our fight against climate change,” Del Duca told a news conference in Newmarket.

Del Duca noted that further details could be expected shortly after a meeting of the Metrolinx board of directors on June 28.

The proposed new GO Train stations are still subject to funding availability, environmental assessment processes, and further planning, engineering and design work.

“Fine details will be coming soon, very soon,” Del Duca said.

The announcement comes as the province projects that weekly trips across the entire GO rail network are expected to quadruple over the next 10 years from about 1,500 to nearly 6,000.
